Workshop Topics Described

Customise XP and Vista Desktops This workshop introduces some of the less-well-known features of the XP and Vista desktops.

Collage in Word:  One way of making a collage of photos is to import them into a Word document.  You can then play with layout and decoration.  Learn the skills at this workshop.

Spellcheck and Autocorrect: This will explain how to use the spellchecking facility which is common to all Microsoft Office applications to correct your spelling (even in other languages) and how to set up and use the autocorrect facility (which corrects common typing errors such as ‘hte’ for ‘the’) to your advantage

Cut, Copy and Paste:  How to remove, relocate and duplicate areas of text (or other file content) by a range of methods.

Sticky Labels in Word:  In this session you will learn to design and print sticky labels for addresses and identification – or just to look pretty!

E-Security: Your safety on-line depends on you taking precautions – just as you would out on the streets at night.  This workshop explains the rules you should follow, both for yourself and for your family.

Borders, Shading and Pictures in Word: How to put borders around pages and paragraphs, how to shade the background of paragraphs, and how to insert pictures.

Scrapbook Flair: This free program is specifically designed to create scrapbooks, and can readily generate an illustrated record of your genealogical research results.  Of course, it has other applications and can even create greetings cards.

Last Word: There are many little tricks in Microsoft Word that don’t get mentioned in our targeted courses and workshops.  This session follows on from ‘So you think you know Word’ and will be a further potpourri of such tricks.

Irfanview: This free program is a very fast browser/viewer for images of all types. It can also create simple slide shows and do quick picture editing, such as resizing your photos.  Try it for yourself – and why not bring some of your own photos on your USB flash drive?

Bullets and Numbering in Word: When you are making lists in a Word document a good technique is to add bullets or numbers.  You can even create personalised bullets.  But there are traps for the unwary!  Find out more at this session.

General Questions and Answers: In this workshop members of the training team will answer any queries you have about computers and computing.  To get the best from this session, please email the Training Coordinator with your query so that we can have a good answer ready – but we will do our best if you give a question without notice!

Emailing Photos:  There are several tricks to sending photos – especially to non-broadband equipped friends.  Learn them in this workshop

Composite Photos using PhotoShop Elements: Keith is a keen scale model aircraft maker and photographer.  He will take you through the processes he uses to make realistic in-flight images of his aircraft, and even how to put yourself in the cockpit!

Genealogy Questions and Answers: Doreen will round off her series on Genealogy with a question and answer session.  Ideally, you could email her in advance at corgwyn@gil.com.au which would assist her to give you a good reply.

Word Questions and Answers: Our new trainer in Microsoft Word, Ken Koschel, will help you with your queries about Word, as a follow-up to his Word course this month.  Again, advance notice of questions to habits7@bigpond.net.au will assist Ken in giving you a prepared response.
